Liverpool may hold a trump card in its squad to help entice Yan Diomande to Merseyside this summer. Diomande has been tipped for a high-profile transfer in the off-season, having caught the eye with his performances for RB Leipzig so far this campaign.

The youngster has notched 12 goals and laid on six assists in the Bundesliga this term — form that has drawn the gaze of Europe's elite clubs. Liverpool is among the interested parties, alongside rivals Manchester United, who are also believed to be monitoring the situation closely.

With four years still remaining on his contract at RB Leipzig, any deal for the winger is likely to command a substantial fee. However, Liverpool may have a shrewd way of bringing the overall cost down considerably.

The key lies with Harvey Elliott, who is set to return to the club following a disappointing loan spell at Aston Villa, where he managed just four Premier League appearances throughout the entire campaign. What had been heralded as an astute piece of business by the West Midlands club has, for whatever reason, unraveled into something of a nightmare.

So, where do RB Leipzig fit into all of this? Prior to the loan move to Villa Park being sanctioned, the German outfit had been linked with Elliott, though they were not entirely satisfied with Liverpool's valuation.

Reports at the time suggested they were only prepared to offer around £20M ($27.1M), before ultimately abandoning its pursuit. It is well established that RB Leipzig has held a long-standing interest in Elliott, something Liverpool can, and arguably should, use to their advantage.

Bolstering its attack will be paramount this summer, particularly given that Mohamed Salah is expected to leave and Hugo Ekitike may not return until the new year.

There could be another card up Liverpool's sleeve, and that is the influence of Jurgen Klopp. The former Anfield boss currently serves as Head of Global Soccer for Red Bull, a role that includes shaping transfer decisions at RB Leipzig.

Klopp will have an intimate understanding of Elliott's abilities and would be well-placed to offer guidance to the RB Leipzig recruitment team regarding his suitability.

Furthermore, he may also play a part in persuading Diomande to choose Anfield over Old Trafford, given his longstanding ties with the six-time European champions.
