Newcastle United star will disappoint Chelsea and Liverpool and 'wants' move to European giants

The latest transfer talk from Newcastle United as one Magpies star is said to have interest from Spain, Germany and the Premier League.

Anthony Gordon’s future at Newcastle United has been the subject of ongoing speculation in recent weeks after reports German giants Bayern Munich are ready to make a firm move for his services.

The Bundesliga champions have said to have made a firm offer to Gordon’s representatives ahead of the summer transfer window but could are yet to submit a firm bid to the Magpies. Several other clubs have been linked with a move for the England international and La Liga giants Barcelona are the latest to be named as a possible suitor for the former Everton forward.

Magpies boss Eddie Howe was asked about the speculation linking Gordon and a number of other key United players with moves away from St James Park recently - and he stressed the need for focus on on-pitch matters during the final weeks of the season as his side look to round off a disappointing campaign on a more positive note.

Speaking last month, he said: “I think your best players will be the ones who are linked with high profile moves. It is certainly not helpful to us, it is not something we encourage or we want. We want players who are 100% focused, with no outside noise. Outside noise can affect players in different ways. Those players that you mentioned are all super professional, they are great players in their own way, in their own right.

“We need them to make the difference on the pitch and I would say the same to all the players. It is reputations and how people assess you is one thing but what you deliver on the pitch is another. We need our best players playing at their best level and that is what we need from all players stepping on to the pitch."

‘A real possibility’

Chelsea and Liverpool have also been linked with a move for Gordon in recent months as they look to offer him an opportunity to remain in the Premier League. However, former Manchester United chief scout Mick Brown has claimed the Magpies star will move abroad and described a move to Bayern Munich as ‘a real possibility’.

He told Football Insider: “Bayern Munich would be a very good destination for Gordon. Out of all of the clubs interested, like Liverpool and Chelsea, his preferred destination would be Bayern Munich, it seems that’s the one he wants. He would do well in German football, and it would allow him to take that step away from the pressure and focus on him in the Premier League. The pace of the game is slower as well, which might suit him and allow him to find a bit of consistency.

“His performances for Newcastle and England have been up and down, so going over to Germany is a real possibility for him. He’ll already know players in the squad, Harry Kane for example with England, so that won’t be a problem for him adapting to the change.”
