The aftermath of Liverpool's loss to Manchester United on Sunday continues to rumble on. The Reds' 3-2 defeat against their fierce rivals represented their 11th league defeat this season and their 18th across all competitions.
It delivered another significant setback for the reigning Premier League champions in a campaign that has been littered with them. Since the final whistle at Old Trafford, questions surrounding Arne Slot's future have resurfaced with intensity, despite the Reds remaining in contention for a top-five finish this term.
In a rare interview, John W. Henry, the head of Fenway Sports Group (FSG), the American sports conglomerate who own Liverpool, has spoken about his ambitions for the club. His insightful remarks arrive as Slot's Liverpool tenure looks to have been determined on Merseyside.

John Henry breaks silence
Liverpool's principal owner has insisted that FSG will not "settle for mediocrity" amid the club's ongoing difficulties. FSG acquired Liverpool in 2010 when the club were in crisis and have since overseen their transformation into twice Premier League champions.
FSG also own Major League Baseball franchise Boston Red Sox. They made headlines last week after sacking Red Sox manager Alex Cora and several backroom personnel earlier in the season.

In an interview with Sports Business Journal, Henry, 76, broke his silence on the dismissals, offering Liverpool supporters a window into FSG's thinking, as pressure mounts from certain quarters of the fanbase for Slot to be sacked.
"Fans get frustrated," said Henry. "The Sox looked terrible for (their) first 25 games. I remember a plane flying overhead when we (Liverpool) were beating Manchester United 7-0 (in 2023) that read 'FSG OUT! It doesn't mean you ignore them, it means you work harder – you don't settle for mediocrity. You have to win."
Arne Slot's future decision emerges
Despite Henry's remarks, and his group's recent interventions at the Red Sox which could suggest change is imminent on Merseyside, Slot is expected to remain at Liverpool in spite of mounting scrutiny — and reported interest from Dutch heavyweights Ajax.
According to Dutch media outlets, the Eredivisie side had expressed interest in Slot as they search for a permanent successor to Fred Grim, who left the club in February.
However, Slot remains tied to Merseyside under contract until 2027. Earlier reports have indicated that Anfield decision-makers are determined to back the 47-year-old and will afford him time to reverse the club's fortunes.

Views on Slot's Liverpool future are split down the middle. Former Liverpool player Didi Hamann believes Liverpool's head coach warrants additional time.
"I've heard that Arne Slot will be there next season," the German said. "I think there's a case to be made that maybe a change of manager should happen or should have happened... He won the league last season of course so I think it's a decision I can live with, and I think most fans can live with, if they have a decent finish to the season."
Yet former England striker Gary Lineker believes ex-Anfield hero Xabi Alonso could be in line to take over this summer. "Would Slot be there next season? Eleven defeats in the Premier League, still in the Champions League positions," he said on the latest episode of The Rest is Football podcast. "I wouldn't be surprised if Xabi Alonso was there next season."
Alonso has been strongly linked with the Anfield hot seat ever since Jurgen Klopp announced he would be stepping down in January 2024. Last summer, Alonso departed Bayer Leverkusen to take charge at Real Madrid, succeeding Carlo Ancelotti, but was relieved of his duties by Los Blancos earlier this year.
