Cody Gakpo has played the seventh-most minutes of any Liverpool player this season, and he is not expected to be going anywhere in the upcoming transfer window.
Following the departure of Luis Diaz and with no subsequent replacement, Gakpo was swiftly elevated to first-choice on the left wing.
It was a stark change to his position as fourth or fifth-choice attacker last season, and he has since played 49 times with a return of nine goals and seven assists.
The 26-year-old confirmed last summer that Bayern Munich did make an approach, and links have continued throughout this campaign.
However, The *Telegraph*‘s Dominic King reports Gakpo “would not be allowed to go anywhere” this summer as he “can play across the forward line.”

It comes after Gakpo signed a new contract, and amid Federico Chiesa‘s anticipated departure after two years at the club, Mo Salah‘s exit, plus the long-term Achilles injury to Hugo Ekitike.
King states that the club “will not look to find a replacement” for the Frenchman as they are “confident” he will return to the levels he showed pre-injury.
With a return to action not expected until 2027, the thought, therefore, is that Liverpool will require Gakpo’s flexibility as their forward line takes on a different look.
You could argue that if an offer arrived that they could not refuse, like the one for Diaz last summer, Liverpool would consider it, though it would leave plenty to do in the transfer window.

The Reds are already in the market for wingers, with PSG’s Bradley Barcola continually linked, as well as RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande, two players who would inject pace and youth.
There will also be an onus on Alexander Isak to hit the ground running at the start of 2026/27 after an injury-interrupted debut season, easing the absence of Ekitike.
With fresh investment beyond the centre-forward role, Gakpo would naturally shift from a first-choice starter back to a rotation option, which is arguably what he is best-suited for.
