“Better than McTominay” – Antonio Cassano makes Liverpool transfer recommendation

Liverpool’s Curtis Jones was the subject of interest from Inter Milan in January. A deal can still be on the cards and praise for the midfielder is now emerging from Italy.

Sport Witness covered the Englishman’s situation closely earlier this year.

The Nerazzurri saw Jones as a replacement for Davide Frattesi, who was close to joining Nottingham Forest.

The Italian was only going to be sold if Liverpool agreed to send their midfielder out on an initial loan. The Reds rejected the deal, even though Jones was open to it.

Talk in Italy about the 25-year-old has continued since then. Antonio Cassano has now recommended the Italian champions return for him.

Cassano: Jones better than McTominay

The former Italy international is a regular on the Viva El Futbol podcast and spoke about Inter’s approach in the summer.

A move for Jones became a topic of discussion, leaving Cassano full of praise for the Englishman.

He said – viaCalciomercato:“Curtis Jones for Inter? He would be an excellent signing, he’s a pacy midfielder, he’s a Champions League-oriented player. He’d be better than McTominay, he has great quality.”

Cassano also took shots at former teammates Cristian Zaccardo and Andrea Barzagli, who won the World Cup with the Azzurri.

“At Liverpool he won a lot playing, unlike Zaccardo and Barzagli who are World Champions but never played.”

Our take: Jones has decision to make

The Liverpool player has always been a very press-resistant midfielder. That ability works well in Serie A, as evident from how the likes of Manu Kone and Khephren Thuram regularly thrive. Players like those are seen as game-breakers and highly valued.

But Jones might not be viewed as a regular first-choice at Inter and he’d have to take that into consideration.
