The latest transfer talk from Newcastle United as the Magpies prepare for the summer transfer window.
Newcastle United are reportedly considering a move for a Liverpool star during the summer transfer window - but will face competition from Premier League rivals Aston Villa and newly crowned Serie A champions Inter Milan for his signature.
United’s summer transfer plans are believed to have played a significant part in last week’s meetings between Howe and the St James Park hierarchy as their annual summit was held at Matfen Hall once again. The Magpies will hope to avoid repeating what was generally accepted to be a poor summer transfer window last time out as the club dealt with the fallout from Alexander Isak’s messy departure to Liverpool and a number of their new additions have failed to hit the heights on Tyneside.
A new goalkeeper, full-back, striker and a midfielder are believed to be on the agenda for the close-season - and it is the latter of those that is the subject of a report from TeamTalk. They have claimed Newcastle have ‘entered the race’ to sign Liverpool and England star Curtis Jones and suggest the Reds academy product is ‘facing an uncertain future’ at Anfield as the current Premier League champions look to make a number of changes in the heart of their side.
The 25-year-old will enter the final 12 months of his current Liverpool contract this summer and appears to be at something of a crossroads at his boyhood club. Jones has made 46 appearances in all competitions for Arne Slot’s side this season but just over half of them have come as part of their starting eleven as the Merseyside outfit have struggled to challenge for major honours throughout the campaign.
The report states Newcastle are ‘keeping close tabs’ on the situation amid uncertainty over Sandro Tonali’s future on Tyneside and confirms Aston Villa have already made enquiries over a possible deal for the six-times capped England international. However, there could be disappointment for both Premier League clubs as a potential move to Inter is said to be ‘a particularly attractive option’ for Jones as he faces a big decision over the next step in his career.
