Curtis Jones ‘open’ to Inter Milan transfer – Liverpool contract talks “on hold”

Curtis Jones was touted with a move to Inter Milan in January, and that interest remains heading into the summer, with the midfielder described as “open” to the move.

Jones will have just one year left on his deal heading into next season, along with eight other Liverpool players, and will understandably assess his options in the summer.

Inter were among the clubs to sound out a move in the winter window, but Liverpool did not entertain a switch, and Jones did not “push” for it either.

The Scouser’s reported preference is to stay at Liverpool “if he could be the main man,” but whether he will receive those assurances after 25 starts this season remains to be seen.

And to add more layers to the story, transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano has claimed Jones has “shown complete openness” to Inter’s project, and likes “the idea of coming to play in Italy.”

The 25-year-old is described as having “appreciated” the “intense attention Inter have been giving him since January,” during a time when contract talks with Liverpool are “completely on hold.”

Aston Villa and Tottenham have also been credited with interest in the midfielder, who has seen his World Cup chances diminish due to a campaign in and out of Arne Slot‘s starting XI.

The prospect of losing a local, homegrown talent should be of concern to the club, especially at a time when Liverpool’s culture and standards have come into question.

Jones has seen Ryan Gravenberch and Cody Gakpo receive new contracts this season, while Ibrahima Konate and Dominik Szoboszlai remain in talks over new terms.

With Jones last extending his contract in 2021, he will be eyeing a substantial salary increase alongside a commitment that there is a consistent starting position in the team for him.

It is understandable that he wishes to know what the future holds for him at Anfield, especially in the wake of impressive performances at right-back over the last three games.

While he has spoken openly about being willing to play in any position, as long as he is playing, it is uncertain whether he would be open to a long-term future in defence.

Jones has been with the club since he was nine years old, but with contract talks on hold, decisive conversations await in the summer.
