Birmingham City are pencilled in to play Barcelona in pre-season friendly
Barcelona’s 2026/27 pre-season plans are taking shape and will include a pre-season clash with Birmingham City.
Mundo Deportivo report on the matter today and Barcelona’s plans to hold a ‘classic pre-season training camp’ in two weeks.
Barcelona choose Birmingham City
According to the Catalan newspaper’s information, Barcelona are planning a two-week trip to England. That will precede a friendly in Nairobi and another in Morocco.
The trip to England will see Barcelona spend time at St George’s Park, England’s national team’s training camp, and will run from July 27th to August 8th.
The plan is to travel directly from England to Nairobi for a friendly, return to Barcelona, then travel to Morocco for a second friendly.
But while they are in England, a pre-season friendly has also been planned. This will see the Catalans take on Birmingham City during the first few days of their training camp. The Blues have been chosen due to their proximity to St George’s Park.
Barcelona at St George’s
The match with Birmingham has been planned to help offset the costs of the training camp. The other two friendlies are expected to generate around €10m in revenue.
No firm date for the clash with Birmingham has been provided yet. But given it will be in the first few days of the training camp and that’s scheduled for July 27th, it will presumably be around that period.
The interesting aspect is that Barcelona have chosen a Championship side for the game, while Mundo explain that their games abroad will be against ‘a major European opponent’.
The decision, it seems, has been chosen for convenience rather than prestige. Either way, it’s good news for Birmingham City .
They’ve been chosen as the side for a Champions League quarterfinalist to test themselves against this summer. Perhaps a win can be the start of a season that sees them secure their return to the Premier League.
