Barcelona presented with opportunity to sign 25-year-old Chelsea defender – Report

FC Barcelona are looking set to reinforce their defense going into the next summer transfer window, and while [strengthening the center-back position is their highest priority](https://semprebarca.com/barcelona-aiming-for-three-new-signings-plus-cancelo-stay-report/), they can also look to bolster the flanks.

In this context, several names have already been linked with a move to the Catalan club in recent weeks. Now, according to Sky Sport via [SPORT](https://www.sport.es/es/noticias/barca/ofrecen-wesley-fofana-barca-alternativa-129899526), another option has been offered to the Blaugranes in the form of Chelsea defender Wesley Fofana.

The French international, who can operate both as a centre-back and as a right-back, is expected to leave the London club this summer. Following Chelsea’s failure to secure qualification for next season’s UEFA Champions League, the Premier League side is open to a squad reshuffle, with Fofana among the players available on the market.

His representatives have already made contact with Barcelona in recent weeks and have held several conversations with sporting director Deco to present the player’s situation and explore a possible move to the Camp Nou.

Chelsea are believed to be asking for around €30 million to sanction his departure, although Barcelona’s position is different. The Catalan club would only consider an operation if it were structured as a loan deal with an option to buy, rather than a permanent transfer at this stage.

For now, Fofana is not a priority target for Barça, as the sporting department continues to focus on other profiles for the centre-back role. However, the French defender is seen as an interesting market opportunity, especially given his versatility, pace, and experience at a high level, having already made more than 30 appearances this season in a difficult campaign for Chelsea.

With interest also emerging from Italy, Fofana’s future remains open, and Barcelona are keeping the information on the table in case conditions become more favourable later in the window.
