Ibrahima Konate, Florian Wirtz and 4 others miss Liverpool training

Ibrahima Konate was absent from Liverpool training on Wednesday along with five other Liverpool players.

With Liverpool hosting Chelsea in the Saturday lunchtime kick-off, Konate and Florian Wirtz missed Wednesday’s outdoor session at the AXA Training Centre.

According to Sky Sports, Konate and Wirtz did not take part in the main training session but instead worked away from the main group.

It is unknown if it is injury-related, but the duo have a few days to recover before the league fixture, which could secure Champions League qualification.

In addition, Alexander Isak and Mo Salah were absent, meaning Liverpool could still be light in attack come the weekend.

AXA Training Group: Wednesday, May 6

The same could apply in the goalkeeping department, with Alisson and Giorgi Mamardashvili still not training as normal.

Arne Slot spoke of his hope of having Isak (groin) and Alisson (hamstring) back for Chelsea‘s visit before the defeat at Man United, but admitted “We have to wait and see how the week will go.”

They, in addition to Wirtz and Konate, will still have the chance to prove their fitness in the upcoming days, with Slot to provide a more detailed update when he faces the media at 1.15pm (BST) on Friday.

Will Alexander Isak return from injury vs. Chelsea?

Isak was a surprise omission against Man United due to what was described as a “really small” groin issue.

And Slot insisted on Sunday that the striker was not at risk of missing the remaining three games of the season, with the Reds “expecting him to be back very soon.”

It is an injury he has previously succumbed to and Liverpool will keep that in mind as they navigate the run-in and look ahead to his expected involvement at the World Cup with Sweden.

If he were to miss Chelsea‘s visit, however, Liverpool could turn to Jeremie Frimpong, Cody Gakpo and Wirtz, if fit.

Rio Ngumoha is also available to Slot and will no doubt be eager to face the club he left for Liverpool in 2024, while youngster Will Wright is also an option.
