Donnarumma and Greenwood pick up community awards

Two of Manchester City’s Men’s and Women’s first team, Gianluigi Donnarumma and Alex Greenwood, have both been named as the Club’s PFA Community Champions.

Donnarumma and Greenwood have both engaged with City in the Community’s (CITC) work over the last 12 months, supporting its purpose to empower healthier lives through football.

Throughout the season Donnarumma has gone above and beyond to support CITC and its programmes, through personal fundraising support. The support allows CITC to continue working with those who most need it throughout Greater Manchester.

Commenting on the award, he said: “During my first year at Manchester City it’s been great to learn about their charity, City in the Community and the work they do across Manchester.

“It’s incredibly important work and any support I can provide or anything I can get involved in that City in the Community do is important to me.

“I look forward to continuing to show them my support.”

Greenwood took part in the Club’s ‘Christmas Together’ Campaign, visiting Ronald McDonald House and a City Onside session where she met with families who benefit from the sessions CITC provide within the house.

Later in the season, Greenwood then surprised CITC participants who were attending an International Women’s Day Event at the City Football Academy, answering their questions around what it means to be a female in the football industry.

Before receiving her award, Greenwood met more young participants from CITC’s 16+ programmes, learning about their involvement in CITC. The group then presented Greenwood with her Community Champion Award.

Commenting on the nomination and receival of her award, she said: “To be nominated for that award is something I’m really proud of.

“This Club do unbelievable work with the community. It’s a place for females and girls to have an opportunity to play sports and to feel safe.

“I say safe a lot and it’s a massive word to use but that’s what this environment creates.”

The PFA Community Champion award aims to raise awareness of the great support the PFA members provide to their Club’s community activities during the season.
