Five Liverpool stars miss training as Arne Slot faces injury crisis for Chelsea clash

Liverpool stars Alexander Isak, Mo Salah, Alisson Becker, Giorgi Mamardashvili and Ibrahima Konate all missed training on Wednesday. Arne Slot is now facing an injury crisis as he prepares for Saturday's game at home to Chelsea.

Isak sat out of last Sunday's 3-2 loss at Manchester United after picking up what was described as a minor groin complaint. The striker had only recently returned after nearly four months on the sidelines with a broken leg, and Liverpool have been understandably reluctant to take any chances with their £125million signing.

That concern remained evident on Wednesday, as the squad were put through their paces ahead of the game against Chelsea, who've lost six Premier League games in a row. Slot will address the media on Friday to give a fuller update on whether Isak will be available to face the Londoners, but the 26-year-old was absent from the midweek session alongside several other key first-team players.

Salah sustained a hamstring injury against Crystal Palace last month and while he's anticipated to be fit before the season concludes - marking the end of his nine-year Liverpool career - the Egyptian was similarly missing from training.

Salah is understood to be targeting next week's trip to Aston Villa as his return fixture, but should still be available against Brentford at Anfield on Sunday, May 24 in any case.

Alisson's absence due to a hamstring problem persists and he's now missed 10 league matches this term. The goalkeeper was due to resume training last week, according to Slot, but was unavailable for the United clash and took no part in the outdoor session at the AXA Centre on Wednesday.

Alisson, who's a target for Italian giants Juventus ahead of the summer transfer window, needs to feature in all three of Liverpool's final games to equal the fewest number of Premier League appearances he's made in a single season for Liverpool - 28, which was recorded across both of the previous two campaigns.

Mamardashvili is another who continues to be unavailable, having injured his knee in the Reds' 2-1 victory at Everton. Initial reports claimed that Alisson's understudy was set to be on the shelf for three weeks.

It's unclear at this point why Konate was missing. The Frenchman was replaced by Federico Chiesa in the dying moments of the defeat at Old Trafford.

Regarding Liverpool's long-term absentees, Hugo Ekitike, Conor Bradley, Wataru Endo, Giovanni Leoni, Stefan Bajcetic and Jayden Danns remain sidelined.
