The Spanish newspaper El Diario revealed that Portuguese coach José Mourinho has set several conditions for taking over as Real Madrid manager, should Álvaro Arbeloa leave.
Arbeloa's chances of remaining at the club have diminished after losing the Spanish league title and suffering an early exit from the Champions League.
According to the newspaper's report, Mourinho presented his demands during intense negotiations, both on a technical and administrative level, expressing his desire for complete control over the team's project. This comes as the club's management seeks to finalize the appointment of a new coach quickly.
The newspaper indicated that following a reported meeting with club president Florentino Pérez and agent Jorge Mendes, Mourinho’s demands paint a picture of a coach determined to have full control and avoid past mistakes.
Despite the atmosphere of the discussion, Mourinho did not give his final approval, stipulating the full implementation of a package of 10 demands, emphasizing that they are non-negotiable and not open to compromise. Among the most prominent of these conditions are:
Signing a contract for only two seasons, with no long-term commitment, limiting himself to technical statements and refusing to assume an extensive media role. In addition to that, having complete freedom in selecting the squad without any interference, bringing his own coaching staff, with the possibility of including Arbeloa, dismissing the current fitness coach due to the injury record, and requiring a second medical opinion to assess the players' health.
He also added to the list, making extensive changes to the squad, including the departure of several players, communicating directly with the club president without intermediaries, and canceling commercial preseason tours to avoid fatigue.
The newspaper emphasized that "these conditions constitute a single package, and rejecting any one of them could lead to the complete collapse of negotiations."
