Wycombe Wanderers to host cup final between Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund

The fixture will take place at the home of the Chairboys on Tuesday, May 12 with the fixture kicking off at 8pm.

The Premier League International Cup (PLIC) is an elite under‑21 competition organised by the Premier League, designed to support the development of young players by exposing them to high‑level European opposition.

The competition is now in its 10th season, with this year’s edition featuring 32 teams: 16 academy sides from England’s Premier League 2 and 16 invited clubs from across Europe.

All matches are played in England, with the competition running from August to May and culminating in knockout rounds and a final.

The aim is to bridge the gap between academy football and the demands of senior professional football by testing players against different styles and environments.

During the 2025/26 season, matches were staged at a wide range of stadiums and training venues across the country, such as Goodison Park, Old Trafford and the Stadium of Light.

Academy venues such as Motspur Park (Fulham), Whitley Park (Reading), Kingsmeadow (Chelsea), Joie Stadium (Manchester City) and The Leicester City Training Ground have also been used.

In the semi-finals, Real Madrid beat Dinamo Zagreb 2-1 after extra time at Woking’s Kingfield Stadium, while Dortmund defeated Real Sociedad 2-0 in front of 1,200 spectators at Aldershot’s Recreation Ground.

The match comes between the two comes two seasons after the Madrid defeated Borussia in the 2024 Champions League final at Wembley Stadium.
