Van Ness has shown flashes of his ability during his first stretch in the league, combining size, strength and athleticism in a way that fits the demands of modern defensive schemes. His progress over the past year and a half has reinforced the idea that he is still ascending.

Consistency remains the central focus as Van Ness continues his development. Like many young players, his growth will depend on repetition, preparation and the ability to perform at a high level on a daily basis throughout the season.

Covington shared his take on Van Ness ahead of the upcoming 2026 NFL season. This can be seen in an article posted on the team’s official website.

I’ve kind of been saying this since Day 1, since I walked in here, I think the sky’s the limit for him. Whatever he puts his mind to, he can do it. It’s about him being out there, being consistent like all of our players on a daily basis. The more you’re out there, the more you do it, the more consistent you are, the better you’re gonna be. That’s with all our players. I’m excited to see him compete this offseason and help us improve as a team for this 2026 year. I’m looking forward to watching him grow like I’ve been seeing him this past 1½ years.

The Packers view this offseason as a critical period for Van Ness to refine his technique and expand his role. Increased opportunities could allow him to translate potential into production, particularly in a defense looking for reliable pass-rushing presence.

Covington’s confidence highlights the importance of Van Ness within the team’s plans moving forward. If his development continues on its current path, he could play a significant role in shaping the identity of Green Bay’s defense in 2026.
