Bayern Munich maintains that Michael Olise is not for sale, with its position rooted in a discussion that took place following Chelsea's world-record bid for Franck Ribery over a decade ago.

Olise has proven to be an astute acquisition for the German giant, arriving from Crystal Palace in 2024. He's now part of one of Europe's most formidable attacking units alongside Harry Kane and Luis Diaz.

The French forward, who previously played for Reading before moving to the Eagles, has continued to showcase exceptional quality and currently boasts 21 goals in all competitions. Later today, he could help Bayern book a spot in the Champions League final.

Olise has delivered some remarkable performances, including a spectacular strike against Real Madrid earlier in the Champions League, and Bayern's hierarchy is insistent that he will not be sold despite links with a return to the Premier League, including to Liverpool.

That stance was adopted after Chelsea attempted to purchase Ribery from them during his peak years. Bayern resolved never to offload a player whose departure would ultimately weaken them — and it has maintained that philosophy.

"In 2009, we received an incredible offer from Chelsea for Franck Ribery," Karl-Heinz Rummenigge explained.

"At the time, it would have been a new world transfer record. I then went to our then CFO Karl Hopfner and Uli Hoeness. We discussed for two hours what to do with that offer.

"On that day, we made a fundamental decision: that in the future, we would no longer sell any player whom we would miss from a sporting perspective.

"And that unwritten rule still applies today. For a player like Olise, there is no price tag that would make us flinch."

Olise made the switch to the Allianz Arena for approximately $70 million (around £50 million), yet Bayern could still secure a substantial profit should they opt to part ways with the French international.

For the second consecutive season, the 24-year-old has reached the 20-goal milestone, with Rummenigge commending his modest demeanor.

"He is a wonderful player," remarked the German legend. "I also like the fact that he is so reserved and almost media-shy.

"That is the exception in today's world. He is a good guy, and on the pitch he is of course outstanding, the way he celebrates football and almost performs magic. That is why it doesn't surprise me that he is so incredibly popular and hyped among our fans."

Bayern manager Vincent Kompany reckons his winger will "be one of the best in the world one day", with Olise continuing to flourish at one of Europe's top clubs.

The Belgian stated: "He's on the right track now. Everything he does is right. His level now is one of the best in Europe."
