PALMYRA, Mo. (WGEM) - Skylar Thompson is still in the American Football Conference North Division, he’s just moving south.
The Baltimore Ravens announced Monday they have added to the competition for the No. 3 quarterback spot with the signing Thompson, the son of former Palmyra High School basketball coach Brad Thompson (1993-2000).
Thompson, 28, is a four-year veteran who spent last season with Baltimore’s AFC North rival Pittsburgh Steelers although he was on injured reserve for the entire 2025 season.
An impressive preseason in Pittsburgh catapulted Thompson, a 2022 seventh-round draft choice out of Kansas State, to a 53-man roster spot and could have positioned him as Aaron Rodgers’ backup. However, a hamstring injury forced him onto injured reserve in September and he did not play for the rest of the season. He was released by Pittsburgh in January.
Baltimore has Lamar Jackson and Tyler Huntley as their top two quarterbacks, but new Coach Jesse Minter said the Ravens could have three to five quarterbacks on the 90-man roster, including another veteran.
“I think that’s a room you’re always trying to just find that perfect number, and we’ll continue to do that,” Minter said.
The Ravens also signed two undrafted rookies to the 90-man roster in Vanderbilt’s Diego Pavia and Connecticut’s Joe Fagnano, who participated in the Ravens’ two-day rookie minicamp over the weekend.
Prior to joining Pittsburgh, Thompson spent three years (2022-2024) with the Miami Dolphins. For his career, Thompson has played in 10 games with three starts (1-2) completing 81 of 138 passes (58.7%) for 721 yards with one touchdown and three interceptions. He also has 15 carries for 25 yards.
He also started Miami’s 2022 playoff loss at Buffalo, completing 18-of-45 passes for 220 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions.
