Andrée Jeglertz Has Won the WSL Title at the First Attempt with Man City Women

Man City Women head coach Andrée Jeglertz becomes only the second manager in the WSL’s history to claim top spot in his debut season at the helm.
Andrée Jeglertz’s team claimed the title this evening after a 1-1 draw between Brighton & Hove Albion and Arsenal deemed it impossible for City to be overtaken in the title race.
The achievements underline the remarkable consistency City have shown across the campaign, having been top of the league table since a 2-1 win over Everton on Sunday 9 November.
City’s statistics at both ends of the pitch further underline that dominance, with the team currently boasting the best attacking record in the entire division with 58 goals, while only Arsenal have conceded fewer.
Individuals have also flourished, with Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw all but assured of a record third successive WSL Golden Boot, while defender Kerstin Casparij also leads the way in assists.
Ayaka Yamashita’s seven clean sheets also see her locked in a battle with Chelsea’s Hannah Hampton and Manchester United’s Phallon Tullis-Joyce for the WSL Golden Glove award.
City have also successfully maintained a 100% record in the Barclays Women’s Super League at the Joie and Etihad Stadium this season, scoring 38 goals and conceding just 10 in the process.
Twelve years since City lifted the Women’s League Cup – their first trophy since professionalisation in 2014 – this league title is the Club’s ninth domestic honour.

“In the good moments and the bad, they’ve always stuck together and found a way to win – something that all great champions do.
“This wouldn’t have been possible without the incredible effort, belief, passion and dedication of my colleagues, the players and the fans. They’ve all been a credit to the club as well as themselves and deserve to celebrate this amazing moment.
“But this isn’t the end of the road – we still have plenty to fight for this season and in the coming years. I’m excited by what the future holds for this amazing group of players and this fantastic club.”
