With doubts creeping up if Bo Nix will be available for minicamps, the Denver Broncos are likely going to be looking for another quarterback to bring into the fold. Broncos On SI's Chad Jensen pointed out Taysom Hill as a player Denver can bring in. His experience with Sean Payton forms a natural connection, but Hill still feels like far from a likely candidate.
It's one thing to pitch a Hill-Payton reunion, but Jensen is suggesting the Broncos inquire about Taysom Hill the quarterbck. It's been some years since anyone has even considered in investing in Hill that way. Ironically, it's been since Payton was his head coach.
Even if Hill joined as a quarterback, it would simply be to be a camp arm until Nix is ready to go. It's doubtful he'd even be viewed as the leader in the clubhouse while Nix is out. Once the Broncos have their starting quarterback back, Hill would be a gadget player once again.
Taysom Hill calling it quits feels like the most likely scenario
The longer we get into the offseason and things remain quiet on the Taysom Hill front, the more likely retirement feels. He’s the only prominent free agent whose return doesn’t get talked about. For that matter, no one talks about Hill playing anywhere.
Hill reuniting with Payton in Denver and making special plays would be great to watch, however, Hill’s performance last year after the ACL surgery suggests the days of that happening consistently are over. In a way, this would feel like Payton doing his former player a solid.
Sometimes players need time to recover from surgeries even though they’re able to get on the field. Hill turns 36 in August. Conventional wisdom suggests a return to form a year after an ACL surgery isn’t in the cards for him.
Hill is a Saints legend, and Kellen Moore gave him a perfect send off in front of his home crowd. His patented run plays were working. He caught a season high 4 passes for 36 yards. Both of those doubled his season totals. To cap it all off, Hill had his first passing touchdown since 2023. For all of the questions Hill’s usage received throughout the season, that was a moment of universal love.
It felt like the moment it was clear Hill was playing his final game in front of the Who Dat Nation and likely playing his last season. Retiring is never an easy decision, so it makes sense that it’s being prolonged. When he does call it quits, it’s only a matter of time before he hits the Saints Hall of Fame.
