Fans rejoiced when EA brought back its college football simulation franchise a couple of years ago. After the massive success story, fans began eagerly anticipating the popular 2k franchise, most widely known now for its NBA franchise, to return to the NFL for the first time since NFL 2K5.
Unfortunately, the 2K NFL game, which was originally announced back in 2025, is no longer in development.
“[What we hoped would come to fruition creatively did not](https://www.gamefile.news/p/bioshock-gta-nfl-civ7-take-two-strauss-zelnick),” Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick told _Game File’s_ Stephen Totilo. “Some of the stuff we tried to do didn’t work out creatively.”
He then said that the company is open-minded about the possibility of starting up again, “if an opportunity presents itself.”
It’s a brutal blow to the gaming community, and fans expressed their disappointment on social media.
“That sucks. An arcade game similar to NFL Blitz would’ve been fun. Or they could’ve done a Football game where everything is customizable. Missed opportunity by 2k,” one person posted on X.
“It’s a double edged sword. Hate on one hand, but on the other you have to look at WWE and the NBA. Makes sense,” one fan added.
“EA runs football and 2K runs basketball & we just have to live with this reality,” someone else posted.
While it won’t be releasing imminently, there’s always the possibility that Take-Two returns to the NFL somewhere down the line.
