Depot After Dark: Colts WR Praises Pittman, Dwight Clay Recalls Meeting Rocky Bleier, Wilson…

A Steelers Depot daily segment. A quick hit of some Pittsburgh Steelers-related stories that may not require a complete article, but nuggets worth mentioning and passing on to you guys.

Your Depot After Dark for May 6.

COLTS WR PRAISES PITTMAN

Wide receiver has been an issue for the Steelers for the last few years. While they’ve had a top wideout, their depth hasn’t been good enough. However, they tried to change that this offseason, trading for Michael Pittman Jr. from the Indianapolis Colts. Pittman is coming off a down year, but he’s been a consistent player.

He’ll be missed by his Colts teammates, too. Colts receiver Josh Downs recently praised Pittman on his Downs 2 Business podcast. The two have been teammates since Downs entered the league in 2023, so it makes sense that they’ve formed a good relationship. He mentioned that he’ll miss playing with Pittman, but he hopes the receiver has success in Pittsburgh.

DWIGHT CLAY RECALLS MEETING ROCKY BLEIER

Rocky Bleier might not be in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, but he’s still an important figure in Steelers history. He helped them build their dynasty in the 1970s. Also, he served in the army during the Vietnam War, returning and battling back from an injury to play in the NFL.

Plenty of people have good memories of Bleier, including Dwight “The Iceman” Clay, who starred at Fifth Avenue High School in the early 1970s and later at Notre Dame. He made the game-winning shots that ended Marquette’s 81-game home winning streak in 1973 and UCLA’s 88-game winning streak in 1974.

Clay was inducted into the Western Chapter Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame last Saturday night at the Sheraton Station Square Hotel. During his induction speech, he recalled meeting Rocky Bleier for the first time at some event in 1978.

“I said, ‘Rock? Dwight Clay,'” Clay said per Steelers Depot’s Scott Brown. “He said, ‘I’ve been waiting all night to meet the Pittsburgh legend.’ That meant a lot to me.”

WILSON HAS OPTIONS

The Steelers have cycled through several different quarterbacks in recent years. That includes kicking the tires on Russell Wilson in 2024. While his tenure with the Steelers wasn’t always great and it got off to a slow start, he still helped Pittsburgh make the playoffs. Now, after a down 2025 season, he’s a free agent, but he has options.

Wilson recently told the New York Post that he’s got options for his future. The New York Jets have offered him a contract, but he could also get a job working on television. It’s not a bad problem to have. We’ll see if Wilson’s NFL career continues or if he hangs it up.
