Colts OC offers no clarity on Anthony Richardson’s eye injury recovery

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson has been out since October 2025 after suffering an orbital fracture during a freak accident during a pregame warmup during the season. His recovery timeline has remained up in the air for quite some time, and offensive coordinator Jim Bob Cooter didn't provide much of any information in Richardson's update.

While talking with media members on Wednesday, Cooter refused to answer any questions about Anthony Richardson's eye injury recovery, according to James Boyd of The Athletic. The 41-year-old OC claimed that he would be “speaking out of turn” if he were to answer the media's questions.

“That's gonna have to be a question for Anthony,” said Cooter. “I'm not gonna speak about a young man's vision. I would be speaking out of turn.”

#Colts OC Jim Bob Cooter, asked if QB Anthony Richardson Sr. still has any vision limitations from the orbital fracture he suffered last year:

Richardson, who is 23 years old, returned as a limited participant in practices in December 2025. However, his eye had not yet fully recovered by then. It's said that the three-year veteran is expected to make a full recovery and have perfect vision once again. But when that remains a mystery. Media members will have to wait until they can talk with Richardson for more information.

The former first-round pick is slated to be the backup behind Daniel Jones next season for the Colts. However, there are still rumors speculating the club could trade Anthony Richardson. Leonard Riley, who was a sixth-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, and Seith Henigan are the other two quarterbacks on Indy's roster.

Richardson's fall from grace was rather quick. He only played in four games in his rookie season after suffering a season-ending shoulder injury that year. He followed that up with 11 starts in the 2024-25 campaign and was eventually replaced in favor of Daniel Jones last season.
