With all the money spent in the summer, Liverpool fans were expecting a strong campaign defending the Premier League title along with success in other competitions. However, the Reds have struggled to put together a continuous run of good form and will lose their league trophy by the end of the season.

Arne Slot spent a whopping £446million last year improving his squad, securing the likes of Alexander Isak, Hugo Ekitike, Florian Wirtz and Milos Kerkez. Despite massive outlays on transfers, the current Premier League champions' best finish this season will be top five, in the Champions League places.

They exited Europe at the hands of Paris Saint-Germain with a 4-0 loss on aggregate. Crystal Palace beat Liverpool in the Community Shield and the Carabao Cup, while Manchester City thumped the Reds 4-0 to send them crashing out of the FA Cup at the quarter-final stage.

With certain areas of the team requiring a rebuild and injuries keeping key players out of contention this season, Liverpool will hope that the 2026/27 season is one to remember.
