Marcos Senesi has emerged as a potential free transfer for Liverpool this summer – and reports of their interest have now been corroborated by a local source.
Senesi is set to leave Bournemouth on the expiry of his contract and will be weighing up a number of options ahead of a high-profile summer transfer.
The Argentina centre-back has been linked with Tottenham, Chelsea, Man United, Aston Villa and Everton along with other clubs in Europe, but Liverpool have also been touted as a realistic destination.
After The i Paper‘s Mark Douglas described a move to Anfield as “most likely,” The Athletic‘s David Ornstein then reported Tottenham as “leading contender.”

Liverpool’s interest in Senesi has at least now been backed up by sources on Merseyside, with the Mail‘s Lewis Steele explaining the situation on Anfield Index’s Media Matters podcast.
“What I was told is Spurs are top of the list there. But Liverpool have been looking at it, because he is free,” Steele said.
“I think it makes sense for them to maybe do it if he’s a free agent.
“Obviously we know Richard Hughes has a good relationship with Bournemouth and will have a good relationship with Senesi as well, because he obviously signed him at Bournemouth.

“It’s certainly worth weighing up.
“Hughes signed him from Feyenoord as well, him and Slot were there at the same time. There might have been links way back when Slot first went to Liverpool.
“It’s certainly one to keep an eye one but nothing more than that as this stage.”
Why Liverpool could look to sign Marcos Senesi

Senesi turns 29 this week and would clearly not be a long-term signing for Liverpool, but his availability as a free agent along with his Premier League-level quality and vast experience make him an attractive option.
There is a sense that, while they build for the future with Giovanni Leoni and Jeremy Jacquet, the Reds could benefit from another established addition to their back line even if Ibrahima Konate stays.
Brighton‘s Jan Paul van Hecke, 26 in June, is another who has been linked, with Dutch publication Voetbal International claiming contact, but Steele was less certain on Liverpool’s interest.

“I’m not sure on that one. I don’t know if there’s much in that or not,” he said.
“I think the reports that came out were from credible outlets, so I would believe it, but I’ve not heard anything from Liverpool for that one just yet.”
The Big Debate
Would Marcos Senesi be a smart addition on a free transfer?
With Arne Slot already familiar with the Argentine from their time at Feyenoord and Joe Gomez‘s future uncertain, a low-cost move for a left-footed specialist could provide vital experience to the back line.
