Mohamed Salah said last week that he has a lot of good options to consider when he leaves Liverpool this summer. But where will he end up?

The Egyptian outlet Mwatan has claimed that Real Madrid is leading the race for Salah's signature, but that doesn't seem likely. The Bernabeu side already has lots of attacking players, and while it has snapped up lots of free agents in recent years, they have tended to be younger stars in their mid-20s (as was the initial plan with Trent Alexander-Arnold).

Salah is said to want a "strong sporting project" to join next. Here, we've assessed some of the potential destinations that he could choose from.

Saudi Arabia

For many, the assumption has been that Salah will end up in the Saudi Pro League. Plenty of other big stars have gone there for a big payday, but the standard is undoubtedly lower.

At 33, is Salah ready to make such a step down? The Egyptian said last week, in a conversation with Steven Gerrard, that he feels the work he has done physically means he still has years left to play.

A move to Saudi Arabia could come this summer, but if it doesn't, the option will not disappear further down the line, so it might be best to delay on that for the time being.

MLS

Similar to Saudi Arabia, moving to the US would be a step down in the level and intensity at which Salah was playing. There would be no shortage of suitors in MLS, but the question is whether the player himself would fancy it right now.

Lionel Messi has gone to Inter Miami and lit up the league, but he is about five years older than Salah. Once again, the Egyptian could delay and come back to this option having done another couple of seasons in a more competitive environment.

Juventus and Italy

The strongest links with Salah since his decision to leave Liverpool was confirmed have probably been with Juventus. In many ways, it is a move that makes sense.

The Old Lady looks set to qualify for the Champions League, is looking for experience to get it back into title contention, and is managed by Luciano Spalletti, who Salah worked with at AS Roma.

Salah could follow Kevin De Bruyne to Serie A, where the intensity is lower than in the Premier League, and he would still be able to play at a high level. Inter Milan has also been mentioned.

Elsewhere in Europe

As already noted, Real Madrid has been linked with Salah, but that feels unlikely. Barcelona, perhaps, is a destination that has more of a track record of taking older players on free transfers, like Robert Lewandowski.

Atletico Madrid was put forward at one point, but may not be able to afford the wages, while PSG does not need any more quality in wide areas. Bayern Munich — though it is chasing Anthony Gordon — probably falls into the same category.

A move to Italy feels like the most likely option of those that involve staying in Europe, and Alisson Becker has been linked with Juventus too.
