CLEVELAND, OHIO (TheOBR.com) - Good morning, Cleveland Browns fans!
The big storyline making the rounds this morning is one that combines a little chaos, some opportunity, and a pinch of "wait, really?" — and his name is Brendan Sorsby. There are local reports that the Browns are "doing their homework" on the former Cincinnati Bearcat, but I think we're familiar enough with the Cleveland Browns modus operandi to know that they do their homework on pretty much everyone. There's probably a Barry McBride file there somewhere, just in case there's a need for an older, more mature player whose biggest downside would be a tendency to run away screaming from the big, strong, scary people just before the snap.
The thing about Sorsby, of course, is that he's talented and many think he would go in Round 1 of next year's draft. The other thing about Sorsby is that he's got a gambling problem - a big one - and teams would be counting on that to get sorted by rehab. He was placing a truckload of bets. Addiction is nefarious and, if you're willing to bet on a 100% turnaround, alright, that's your call.
But, of course, there's that talent and the potential to get him at a bargain price in the supplemental draft. The Beacon Journal is asking out loud if he could be the answer for Cleveland. More intriguingly, ESPN's Todd McShay weighed in and named the Browns as one of the top teams that should be interested in Sorsby via the supplemental draft. And judging by Sorsby chatter already lighting up the Ask the Insiders boards, you're clearly curious too.
I did in-depth research on this. Hours and hours of understanding Sorsby's potential, watching tape, understanding the framework of limits of gambling rehabilitation and then consulting AI about what I should have for dinner. Well, the last one, at least, which is enough for me to form an uninformed opinion.

So, I want to pump the brakes just a tad here. The Browns just used a sixth-round pick on Taylen Green in this past draft, and we just dropped a comprehensive draft review on Green that speaks pretty highly of the kid's ceiling. The Browns QB room is already wadded full of players. So are the Browns quarterback-needy enough to go back to the well with Sorsby on top of that investment? Maybe. The supplemental draft only costs a pick if you win the lottery, so kicking the tires is essentially free. We'll keep watching.
To me, it depends on the round. Those 2027 draft picks are precious, and I'm not inclined to spend more than a third on Sorsby. I've simply seen too many "potential first round picks" at quarterback flame out in their senior year and drop dramatically down the list. (Wave "Hi" to Garrett Nussmeier and Drew Allar, everyone). I put the risk/reward balance at Round 3, but I doubt he'll last that long.
Here at home, we've got a fresh Week One WR roster prediction hot off the press for your reading pleasure, and yesterday's news and rumors roundup is a solid catch-up if you missed anything.
Around the NFL, Aaron Rodgers' future remains as murky as ever, with the Cardinals and Steelers still circling. Meanwhile, the Jaguars' coordinator addressed Travis Hunter's position future amid chatter about a full-time move to cornerback — the consensus for now seems to be: WR. The Browns won that deal as long as Jacksonville is running around in circles deciding how to use him. And on the officiating front, the NFL is apparently close to a referee deal to head off any "Fail Mary"-style debacles this season. Progress.
Have a good one! GO BROWNS!

Positive news from the world of sports and beyond…
Browns owners Dee and Jimmy Haslam donate $12.5 million toward blood cancer research and treatment
The grant is for "research and drug development focused on chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) and other rare blood cancers". Dee was diagnosed with CLL several years back and is "living a full life" with it, but let's offer up some props to the Browns owners for helping others who may wind up with the condition.
