Harvey Elliott could emerge as an option for RB Leipzig again this summer, with a move from Liverpool deemed “most likely” after his failed loan at Aston Villa.
Elliott is set to return to Liverpool at the end of the season having been frozen out at Villa, with Unai Emery unwilling to sign him.
The 23-year-old will do so after what has effectively been a lost campaign, having only played nine times in all competitions due to an obligation-to-buy clause in his deal.
While many supporters would ideally see Elliott return to the first-team squad at Liverpool, it seems as though the plan will be to seek a buyer this summer.
Both The Athletic‘s James Pearce and the Mail‘s Lewis Steele have floated Leipzig as a potential destination this week.

Pearce has described a move away from Liverpool as the “most likely” avenue for Elliott and recalled interest from the Red Bull Arena a year ago.
Speaking on Anfield Index’s Media Matters podcast, Steele was asked about the possibility of the England youngster moving to Leipzig with winger Yan Diomande heading in the opposite direction.
He explained his belief that Leipzig were “leading the race” at one stage last summer and it “could be one to keep an eye on” when the window opens.
“It would make sense because Leipzig were the team who, for much of last summer, I thought that was where Elliott would end up,” Steele said.

“They seemed to be the team leading the race for most of the summer, alongside a couple of other German clubs.
“It makes sense, it’s just whether it would actually happen or not. We don’t know, but there’s certainly potential.
“I wouldn’t want to rule that one out. It could be one that Liverpool use as a little sweetener [in talks for Diomande].
“It just depends on how much Elliott’s valued at these days. We know it was £35 million last summer, it’s not going to be the same now after he’s had a year of nothing basically.

“Leipzig are a clever club. They know that one year doesn’t define Elliott’s career and they’ll be looking at the other things as well.
“It could be one to keep an eye on for sure.”
Elliott was clearly open to a move to the Bundesliga last summer but opted to stay in the Premier League, no doubt with an eye on making Thomas Tuchel’s squad for the World Cup.
That has not gone to plan and a new outlook will be required, but uncertainty reigns at Liverpool with doubts not only over Arne Slot‘s future but also a number of homegrown players including Curtis Jones, which could impact Elliott’s situation.
