‘As Early As Next Week’: Kaboly Hears Rodgers Signing Is ‘Imminent’

Steelers fans are waking up Thursday morning to reports that Aaron Rodgers is finally on his way to Pittsburgh to end the months-long waiting game. While beat writer Mark Kaboly pushed back on the exact timeline of those reports, he stopped short of dismissing the possibility that a signing could come soon.

“I made some calls inside the organization [and] they were like, ‘I don’t know what the hell you’re talking about,'” Kaboly said via Kaboly + Mack on YouTube. “I’m like, did you see this report from the morning show? They were like, ‘No, I have no idea what the hell you’re talking about.’ I think they are working through some stuff still. What it sounded like to me is there has been some back and forth.

“I heard it’s imminent and I heard as early as next week. I did not hear in town tonight and signed this weekend.”

If Aaron Rodgers is coming to town with the intent to sign with the Steelers this weekend, he forgot to tell somebody important — the Steelers. The organization has not been informed of this development. That's not to say that it can't happen or that it isn't imminent. There… pic.twitter.com/weL7OlFOIR

To add another wrinkle to this convoluted report, Ian Rapoport quoted 93.7 The Fan’s report.

“Progress for the Steelers and Aaron Rodgers. While no deal is in place, at least he is [planning] to visit for further discussion,” he wrote on X.

Is Rapoport confirming this from his sources, or is he simply running with The Fan’s reporting? Kaboly said he called multiple people in the building, and none of them knew what he was talking about.

To be fair, Rodgers has a habit of informing as few people as possible as to not have his movements known by the media. He famously slipped out of the facility last year in a Chevy Malibu. This information can be on a need-to-know basis, and perhaps Kaboly’s sources don’t have high enough clearance in the organization.

Art Rooney II strongly hinted at a new deadline at the start of OTAs for Rodgers’ decision, but his deadlines have meant very little up to this point. According to Pittsburgh Post-Gazette’s Gerry Dulac, their patience is wearing thin. Maybe the message was finally received by Rodgers.

He didn’t sign until early June last year at the start of mandatory minicamp. If he does sign over the weekend or sometime next week, he will be slightly ahead of last year’s schedule.
