Aaron Rodgers is expected to visit the Pittsburgh Steelers this weekend in the hopes of clearing the final steps to sign with the team. First reported by 93.7 The Fan Thursday morning, Rodgers is set to be in town Friday to meet with the team. Ian Rapoport confirmed the initial report and though he cautions no deal is in place, the saga could be wrapped up soon.
Rapoport notes Rodgers’ “plan” is to play for Pittsburgh this season.
“FA QB Aaron Rodgers, who is expected to visit the#Steelers Friday and this weekend, will likely play for them in 2026, sources say,” Rapoport tweeted.
“A deal is not done & there is always caution until things are signed. But Rodgers’ plan is to play for PIT & these are steps toward that end.”

It’s the first tangible reporting of Rodgers’ next moves this offseason. Plenty of speculation guessed at when Rodgers would provide Pittsburgh an answer and even the team’s own expected timelines of before the draft came and went. But it seems a deal could be signed this weekend.
Shortly after The Fan’s initial report, Mark Kaboly pushed back on the idea and said Pittsburgh was unaware Rodgers was visiting this weekend. But it seems to be happening and Kaboly’s own comments indicated a deal was “imminent” even if he had the timeline closed to next weekend than this one.
Rapoport notes the $15 million tender Pittsburgh placed on Rodgers post-draft is a “placeholder” and any contract Rodgers signs would be under different terms. Presumably, Rodgers’ visit will include contract discussion in a deal that will likely look similar, though perhaps a little larger, than 2025’s contract.
While the #Steelers gave Rodgers the UFA tender, that’s considered a place holder. Hard to imagine he plays for $15M, which is why a deal must be worked out and finalized. But finality is coming soon, sources say. https://t.co/0bS5OGyRCt

Pittsburgh is set to hold its rookie minicamp this weekend. Rodgers obviously isn’t eligible to participate but he could get the deal signed ahead of the team’s voluntary minicamp beginning May 18. Even under contract, Rodgers wouldn’t be obligated to attend, but signing would at least give the Steelers complete clarity over its starting quarterback for 2026.
Should Rodgers sign within days, it will follow a similar but slightly earlier timeline than a year ago. In 2025, Rodgers officially signed his contract in early June ahead of Pittsburgh’s mandatory minicamp.
