Steelers rumors: Aaron Rodgers expected to sign this weekend during trip to Pittsburgh

The Pittsburgh Steelers are waiting on QB Aaron Rodgers once again. Pittsburgh has been waiting on the 42-year-old quarterback's decision on his future for the entire offseason. But new reporting suggests that the long wait may finally be over soon.

Rodgers is expected to finally sign with the Steelers during a visit to Pittsburgh this weekend, which was first reported by 93.7 The Fan on Thursday.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport shared the reporting, adding “Progress for the #Steelers and Aaron Rodgers. While no deal is in place, at least he is planning to visit for further discussion.”

Rapoport later made a post of his own, reporting that Rodgers will likely play for the Steelers during the 2026 season. “A deal is not done & there is always caution until things are signed,” Rapoport added. “But Rodgers’ plan is to play for PIT & these are steps toward that end.”

This report comes one day after one Steelers insider teased a Rodgers update from an “interesting source.”

Both sides are expected to work out a new deal for Rodgers over the next few days. Technically, Rodgers could always pick up Pittsburgh's UFA tender for a $15 million salary. However, that tender is viewed as a placeholder while Rodgers negotiates a new deal with the Steelers.

The addition of Rodgers would be huge news for the Steelers, even if it was expected for months. Pittsburgh's quarterback room outside of Rodgers is full of question marks. Adding the veteran quarterback should have the Steelers back in the playoff hunt in 2026.

Steelers fans should keep their eyes peeled for more Rodgers updates throughout the weekend.
