The Pittsburgh Steelers finished with a 10-7 record last season and won the AFC North. Pittsburgh once again lost in the wild card round against the Houston Texans. Mike Tomlin decided to resign as head coach. Mike McCarthy is the new head coach for this football team this season. One of the biggest stories for the Steelers will be whether or not quarterback Aaron Rodgers decides to return next season, go elsewhere, or retire.

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers (8) fires the ball downfield during the second half of the NFL Wild Card game against the Houston Texans at Acrisure Stadium in Pittsburgh, PA on January 12, 2026.
Well, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported on Twitter on Thursday, “FA QB Aaron Rodgers, who is expected to visit the#Steelers Friday and this weekend, will likely play for them in 2026, sources say. A deal is not done & there is always caution until things are signed. But Rodgers’ plan is to play for PIT & these are steps toward that end.” If he does sign with Pittsburgh, he will be the starting quarterback in 2026 most likely. If not, it is going to be a quarterback competition between Drew Allar, Will Howard, and Mason Rudolph for the starting job.

There are a lot of NFL fans who are baffled about Rodgers potentially returning to Pittsburgh next season instead of him retiring. This is what some fans said about him possibly returning to the Steelers in 2026:
Not gonna lie, I just assumed after this man watched Farve piss away his legacy by playing far past his expiration that he would have at least learned when to walk away.

I really don’t understand the Steelers desire to continue bringing him back. This is most likely just to bring another competent QB in the room and have him start until they deem Howard or Allar ready to go

Steelers really watched Aaron Rodgers move like a retired uncle for two seasons and said “yeah that’s our missing piece. Lol 🤣

No shocker here! 8 is back for another year in the Burgh with some nice weapons around him.
Let’s go!

Rodgers. A year older. Big whoop. Steelers mis-management. Fans don’t want him.

It is interesting that Rodgers wants to come back. Steelers fans seemed surprise about him returning in 2026. Will this actually be the final year of his career if he does sign or not? It remains to be seen here.
