Youth is fleeting. That's never been more obvious than now, as the average age of the Los Angeles Rams roster may surprise some fans. Once a fountain of youth, the team has quietly crept older as it values the experience and dependability of veteran players. And the team has yet to re-sign 34-year-old backup quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo.
Los Angeles projects a team that is the 26th oldest of 32 NFL teams. And that could creep higher as many of the undrafted rookies may be swept aside as the team pares down to a 53-man roster, and a 16-player practice squad.

While the age of LA is a bit high, keep in mind that nearly two dozen players, many of them starters, are playing in the last year of their current contracts. While many are coming off inexpensive rookie deals, the simultaneous upgrade to fair market value of so many simultaneously is a high-stakes gamble that this team is making to optimize its 2026 competitiveness.
Spiking age of Rams roster proves what's at stake for team in 2026
Some scoffed at the idea of the LA Rams going all-in for 2026, as the team selected a future franchise quarterback with the 13th overall selection. But the team had already used a Round 1 pick to add a veteran All-Pro cornerback named Trent McDuffie.
And the truth is that no rookie on offense has a chance to move the needle this season. That's not speculation. That's simply how LA rolls.
Los Angeles is among the most competitive NFL teams in recent years. And its rising age of players is a clear indication that the window for winning a Super Bowl is viewed by the front office executives as the present. Teams that struggle often start by getting younger. Teams that find success tend to stick with what works.
Not surprisingly, every NFC West Division team is among the teams with the oldest players. Even the Arizona Cardinals, a team that struggled to win games in 2025, knows that success in 2026 depends on dependable veterans. And that's what makes the NFC West one of the most competitive divisions in the entire NFL.
Even as training camp nears, many fans and NFL analysts have already set the bar of expectations for Los Angeles very high. The players know what is expected of them. The veterans know how to deliver to those lofty expectations.
