Last month, Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Josh Downs saw his younger brother drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in the first round. Caleb Downs will become a star quickly in the secondary in Dallas, while Josh continues to be a threat at wide receiver for the Colts. It will be exciting to see these two on the field at the same time in the future. The Colts and Cowboys will play in 2026 in Indianapolis at some point.
Josh Downs is entering the final year of his rookie contract (4 – $5.52 million) that he signed in 2023. He will become a free agent at the end of the season unless the Colts decide to extend him either before, during, or right after the season, before FA starts. In a recent interview with NBC, Downs mentioned that he received some advice from star running back and teammate Jonathan Taylor.

“Obviously, you think about it a little bit,” Downs said. “At the end of the day, you’ve got to play football, you’ve been playing this sport your whole life. I feel like just going out there, putting in the work, and having fun with it. I was talking to [Jonathan Taylor] about it yesterday. JT was telling me ‘Don’t even think about it, just go out there and play. Keep doing what you’re doing.’ That’s the most important thing, not to think about chasing money. I feel like that’s when you lose yourself.”
Downs has scored nine touchdowns in the last two seasons combined while racking up close to 1,400 yards. With Michael Pittman Jr. now in Pittsburgh, Downs will become much more involved in the offense. The 4th-year receiver has a real opportunity ahead of him.
