Vikings turn to 49ers, Titans, Chargers, Rams for next GM interview requests

The Minnesota Vikings have had a busy offseason as they look to bounce back following last year's disappointing season, which resulted in them missing the playoffs despite finishing over the .500 mark. The Vikings made headlines just weeks after the season ended by firing general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah, a position they still have not filled halfway into the offseason.

Now, more information has come to light from ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter on new names that the Vikings are reportedly circling as potential candidates for the vacancy.

“Sources: Vikings have requested GM interviews with, amongst others, 49ers assistant general manager RJ Gillen and Titans assistant general manager Dave Ziegler,” reported Schefter on X, formerly Twitter.

“Vikings also have requested permission to interview Chargers assistant GM Chad Alexander,” he added.

Tom Pelissero also reported that the Los Angeles Rams were of interest to the Vikings regarding assistant GM John McKay, who has worked with Vikings coach Kevin O'Connell.

It certainly makes sense that the Vikings would be interested in plucking from an organization like the San Francisco 49ers, who have been among the most stable in the NFL over the last few years. The Chargers are also a team on the come-up that have turned themselves into relevant contenders in the AFC in recent seasons.

The Vikings have plenty of question marks that their next general manager will have to answer, most notably at the quarterback position, after JJ McCarthy's rough first season at the helm in 2025. The Vikings made headlines by bringing in Kyler Murray earlier this offseason, although it's unclear if the team views him as a long-term solution at the position, or just a potential stopgap.

In any case, the Vikings will want to get an answer on their general manager opening sooner rather than later as the offseason continues.
