The‘leading candidate’to leave Chelsea this summer after pressure for a major sale

Things could get a lot worse for Chelsea before they get better, with the club facing a challenging summer.

It has already been reported that Anthony Gordon has rejected Chelsea, who are managerless and on a run of six consecutive defeats in the Premier League.

Transfer targets turning them down is not the only problem they could encounter ahead of the 2026/27 season, though.

You can only keep one, Enzo Fernandez or Cole Palmer. Who are you choosing?

Chelsea need to make big sale and could offload Enzo Fernandez as a result

According to the Daily Briefing, Chelsea must sanction a big sale this summer and Enzo Fernandez is the “leading candidate” to go.

Fernandez appears to be unsettled at Chelsea right now and is attracting interest from some of Europe’s biggest clubs.

With that in mind, it is not a surprise to hear that he could be the big sale that the Blues end up making in the upcoming transfer window.

Real Madrid are thought to be the midfielder’s preferred destination. If he goes there or joins another club, Chelsea do have a shortlist of potential replacements.

Last week, it was claimed that Sunderland’s Noah Sadiki could replace Fernandez, though he would not necessarily be a like-for-like successor.

While Fernandez has become quite an attack-minded midfielder who can play as a No.10, Sadiki is more of a defensive midfielder.

Chelsea face devastating domino effect if they sell Enzo Fernandez

Chelsea could watch their project crash and burn if they allow Fernandez to join Real Madrid this summer.

All things considered, it is already failing, but things could be about to get much worse. Some of Chelsea’s other top players like Cole Palmer and Moises Caicedo may start to question where the club are heading if it sells one of its best footballers.

Right now, the Blues are ninth in the Premier League table and will not be in the Champions League next season. They may already be questioning their long-term futures, though Caicedo only recently signed a new contract.
