After his former teammate Stefon Diggs was acquitted on his assault charges, New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye has given his take on the situation.
Speaking to the Associated Press (via ESPN), Maye discussed his 2025 teammate. Maye called Diggs “a great teammate,” and he's “looking forward to” his future.
“Well, you know, he's always been a great teammate to me, and I know he'll do great things,” Maye said. “I was fortunate enough to have a year with him, and I'm looking forward to seeing what happens to him. He's a great player.”

On Wednesday, May 6, 2026, Diggs was found not guilty of assault, battery, and strangulation. The verdict comes after the judge gave the primary witness, Jamila Adams, a warning after she was evading questions.
“You’re responsible for answering questions that are put to you,” the judge told Adams. “If you don’t understand the question, you can say that. And I’m sure counsel will rephrase it. If you can’t hear a question, tell them that as well.
“But courtrooms function in, and especially trials unfold, in a question and answer format. This is not an opportunity for you to interject your own narrative and evade responding to questions the court deems appropriate. And if you continue to do so, your entire testimony may be stricken. Am I clear?” the judge continued.
The trial then reached a conclusive decision after the warning, and Diggs was acquitted. This exonerated him from the criminal allegations made by his former chef.
Adams accused Diggs of assaulting her following a dispute over her pay. She became Diggs' personal chef in February 2025, earning $2,000 a week. However, upon approaching him about her salary, Diggs allegedly slapped and choked her.
Currently, Diggs is a free agent after spending the 2025 season with the Patriots. He caught 85 passes for 1,013 yards and four touchdowns. This was a big rebound for Diggs, who was coming off a season with the Houston Texans, where he tore his ACL.
He was a big part of the Patriots' offense that reached the Super Bowl. During the 2025 playoffs, Diggs caught 14 passes for 110 yards and a touchdown.
