Stefon Diggs exited a Norfolk County courtroom on Tuesday evening. A Massachusetts jury cleared the former New England Patriots wide receiver on felony strangulation and misdemeanor assault charges.
Jurors spent less than 90 minutes before reaching a verdict. What the 32-year-old did with his freedom turned heads.
The two-day trial centered on a December 2025 dispute at Diggs’ home in Dedham. His former live-in chef, Jamila Adams, testified that he choked and slapped her over unpaid wages.

Former New England Patriot wide receiver Stefon Diggs returns to Dedham District Court after lunch break on Tuesday, May 5, 2026. Diggs did not speak with the media at any time.
Adams told the court she earned roughly $2,000 per week. She claimed Diggs did not fully compensate her after sending her home. Her attorney later demanded $5.5 million in damages.
Defense attorneys argued that no assault ever took place. They highlighted financial demands and witness testimony that Adams showed no signs of injury. The prosecution relied entirely on her account of events inside the home.
“There was no assault, no strangulation, no incident at all on that day,” defense attorney Andrew Kettlewell told jurors. Jurors returned a not guilty verdict shortly after closing arguments.

The clip also showed him lifting weights and completing a full session. That pattern has defined Diggs throughout his NFL career. He has always responded to setbacks by pushing harder in training.
The late-night session quickly gained attention across social media. A viral post framing the workout as proof of a “work-hard, play-hard” mentality went viral.
That same drive powered his 2025 season with the New England Patriots. Heposted 85 catches for 1,013 receiving yards and four touchdowns across 17 games.
The Patriots reached the AFC championship game with a 14-3 record. New England released him in March despite his strong on-field production.
Across eleven NFL seasons, Diggs has recorded 942 career receptions. He earned four Pro Bowl selections and built a reputation for clutch performances on the field.
Now the unsigned free agent waits for his next opportunity. The NFL confirmed the case remains under review under its personal conduct policy.
His attorney Mitch Schuster believes the acquittal removes a major obstacle. “Teams have been reluctant to sign him with these false charges hanging over his head,” Schuster told USA Today.
For now, Diggs is keeping his full focus on football training. The treadmill video sent a direct message to every NFL front office. He wants nothing more than another shot in the NFL.
