Former Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez has reportedly alerted Premier League clubs to his availability after a difficult spell in the Saudi Pro League.
When Nunez departed Liverpool for Al Hilal last summer, the move appeared to suit all parties after the Reds secured a significant fee.
However, his time in Saudi Arabia has been disrupted by limited playing opportunities, with Karim Benzema’s arrival quickly reducing his role in the squad.
A summer exit is now expected after Darwin Nunez agreed to leave Al-Hilal less than a year after joining the Saudi Arabian side, with the striker deemed surplus to requirements under Simone Inzaghi. Al Ittihad are among the clubs monitoring the situation, but a return to Europe is seen as more likely.
There is also interest from Turkey, while Premier League clubs are considered the best placed to meet any significant financial demands. Al Hilal paid around £46million for the striker a year ago, although recouping that fee is seen as unlikely.
Nunez is open to a Premier League return, with reports suggesting Newcastle United could be interested if a free-transfer opportunity arises.
However, according to talkSPORT’s Alex Crook, Newcastle are not an active suitor for Darwin Nunez, despite long-standing admiration for the Uruguayan dating back to his Benfica days.
Nunez scored 40 goals in 143 appearances for Liverpool before being sold. In the 2025/26 season, he has made 24 appearances, scoring nine goals and providing five assists.
However, he has since been omitted from the league squad and has not featured in the Saudi Pro League since early February.
Chelsea are among the clubs linked with a move, meaning he could yet return to England this summer. With Joao Pedro already at Stamford Bridge, the former Liverpool striker could complement the Brazilian’s deeper creative role with runs in behind.
Juventus are also said to be monitoring the situation, with the Serie A side reportedly prioritising a move for Alisson Becker in the summer transfer window.
The goalkeeper previously played a key role in helping Nunez settle at Liverpool through language support, which could again ease his adaptation should he move to Italy.
