Signage goes up at Arrowhead as transformation into ‘Kansas City Stadium’ begins for World Cup

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - Work is underway at Arrowhead Stadium as crews convert the football field into a FIFA-regulation soccer pitch ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

New signage was spotted going up around GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium on Thursday, May 7, as the transformation got visibly underway.

The Chiefs confirm that FIFA will officially take control of the venue within the next few weeks.

The stadium has undergone renovations over the past several years to accommodate a World Cup soccer pitch, including the removal of seats and other structural changes.

Now, crews are also working to cover the Chiefs’ sponsorship signage and the team’s name inside the venue. The stadium will be rebranded as “Kansas City Stadium” for the duration of the World Cup 2026.

What to expect outside the stadium

In addition to the field conversion, the Chiefs say crews will move large tents into the stadium parking lots. Some of those tents will be used for media broadcast operations.

Chiefs officials to speak Monday

Kansas City Chiefs officials are expected to speak with the media on Monday, May 11, with updates on the stadium’s progress and upcoming milestones.

International Interest already building

KC2026 says it has launched a Kansas City-specific WhatsApp channel with FIFA. Before the end of its first week, 8,000 individuals had already signed up - many from Argentina.
