Saints' perfect Alontae Taylor replacement just fell into their lap

Kenny Moore II's displeasure with the Indianapolis Colts was no secret. Once it became public knowledge, they were going to struggle to find a trade partner for him. Thursday afternoon, he was granted his release, and the New Orleans Saints should be already talking to his agent.

If you're looking for a player who you know can give you what Alontae Taylor gave you, Kenny Moore is the way to go. He's been one of the best players in the slot for some years now. If the Saints don't at least call Moore's agents, it would be an even bigger sign of belief of the players in the room than passing on a defensive back early in the draft.

Kenny Moore just makes too much for the Saints

Louisiana Sports dot Net's Ross Jackson illustrated the similarities in how Taylor and Moore were used last season. Their snap counts were much different but the percentage of those snaps spent as a run defender, pass rusher and in pass coverage were nearly identical. Moore would be perfectly suited for stepping into Taylor's shoes.

One thing Moore would bolster is turnover production. Taylor had 4 career interceptions. Moore had 3 interceptions in both 2024 and 2023. In total, he's had five seasons with more than 3 interceptions and two seasons with 4 interceptions. There have been less productive seasons in there, but those five seasons make up half of his career.

The question becomes does Moore want to come to New Orleans. That's always going to be the question when you have a high profile free agent and a team who isn't a Super Bowl contender. The Tyler Shough effect is the Saints' best bet.

The Saints brought in Travis Etienne and David Edwards this offseason, and Edwards is the best proof of how the Saints are becoming a desirable destination for some players. Edwards was a high profile signing and was one of the highest paid guards on the market. Seeing the Saints on the upswing had to play a factor in the decision making, in addition to the financials. Moore could easily see that same potential in New Orleans' ascension.
