Charge against Kansas City Chiefs assistant coach Dave Merritt has been dismissed

A Johnson County District Court judge on Thursday dismissed without prejudice a case against Chiefs (Shop Chiefs Fan Gear) assistant coach Dave Merritt.

Merritt was arrested April 22 on suspicion of misdemeanor domestic battery and booked into jail that night. He entered a plea of not guilty the next day and was released on bond.

Merritt, a defensive backs coach, was with the Chiefs during rookie mini-camp last weekend.

“Dave’s been very up-front with everything,” Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said Saturday. “We’re still going through that whole procedure. In this case, you always let the law enforcement part take care of itself and work its way out.

“And so that’s where we’re at right now, but we’re aware, and we’ve had communication with both sides there, with the law enforcement side and Dave.”

Merritt, 54, joined the Chiefs in 2019 and has been part of three Super Bowl-championship coaching staffs in Kansas City. He’s been an NFL coach since 2001.
