There is a strong possibility Anthony Gordon could leave Newcastle this summer, with transfer links to Liverpool continuing to circulate after previous interest from the Reds.
This season, only Kylian Mbappe and Harry Kane have scored more goals in the Champions League than Gordon, who has netted 10 goals in the competition. He is set to travel to the World Cup with England under Thomas Tuchel, where he could be a regular starter.
Liverpool, under Arne Slot, are reportedly looking to add more pace and goal threat in the final third, with players such as Yan Diomande and Bradley Barcola also linked.
Gordon, valued at around £75million, is viewed as a potential option. Newcastle were previously open to selling him for PSR reasons, but a move to Liverpool collapsed in the summer of 2024 after the Reds did not meet an £80million valuation.
Newcastle are now expected to consider player sales as they look to rebuild following a difficult Premier League campaign.
Gordon has missed the last three Newcastle matches, with Eddie Howe confirming an injury for two of them before he was left on the bench against Brighton.
According to Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, there have already been club-to-club talks between Bayern Munich and Newcastle over Gordon, although the German side are not willing to meet his price tag, with Newcastle demanding up to €90million. Barcelona, Arsenal, and Liverpool have also been informed of the situation.
Plettenberg posted on X: “There have already been club-to-club talks between FC Bayern and Newcastle regarding Anthony Gordon. Newcastle’s initial demands were up to €90m.
“Barcelona, Arsenal and Liverpool also informed. Realistically, the fee is expected to be around €75-85m including bonuses. Bayern will not pay that. That is why talks with other candidates are also ongoing.”
Gordon has made 46 appearances this season, scoring 17 goals and providing five assists across all competitions. The England international, who is under contract until 2030, has also become a regular for the national team since joining Newcastle from Everton in a £45million deal in January 2023.
With Bayern deciding not to meet Gordon’s price tag, this could represent an opportunity for Liverpool to move for the boyhood Reds supporter, who grew up supporting the club.
