Depot After Dark: Former NFL lineman Praises Watt, Carr Funny Story About Harrison, Baldinger…

A Steelers Depot daily segment. A quick hit of some Pittsburgh Steelers-related stories that may not require a complete article but nuggets worth mentioning and passing on to you guys.

Your Depot After Dark for May 7.

FORMER NFL OL PRAISES WATT

The Steelers hit big in the 2017 draft, landing T.J. Watt with the 30th pick. While he was initially known mostly for being J.J. Watt’s brother, he’s built his own legacy. That includes being named Defensive Player of the Year once and being tied for the single-season sack record at one point. Even though he hasn’t been as good during the past few seasons, Watt is still one of the league’s most respected pass rushers.

Former NFL offensive lineman Daryl Williams made that evident. He recently appeared on Garret Williams’ YouTube channel and was asked who the toughest player was to block. Watt was the first name mentioned. Williams played from 2015-2021, spending time with the Carolina Panthers and Buffalo Bills. He faced Watt twice, with the pass rusher picking up two sacks against Williams.

CARR FUNNY STORY ABOUT HARRISON

The Steelers have had plenty of feared defenders throughout their history. That includes Pro Football Hall of Famers such as Jack Lambert, Joe Greene and Mel Blount. However, perhaps none have the same reputation as James Harrison. While Harrison might not ever make the Hall of Fame, many of his opponents will never forget him.

That includes former NFL quarterback Derek Carr. Carr recently told a story on his podcast about the two times he felt embarrassed on an NFL field. That included a game against the Steelers, when Harrison picked him up and Carr couldn’t escape his grasp. While it’s funny to listen to now, it’s understandable why Carr felt the way he did in the moment.

BALDINGER REFLECTS ON ANTONIO BROWN

The Steelers are mostly known for their sturdy defenses. However, they’ve also had many great offensive players, such as Antonio Brown. While Brown’s legacy is complicated, he was arguably the best receiver in the league for most of his time in Pittsburgh.

Brian Baldinger recently reflected on Brown’s play with the Steelers. He posted a video on Twitter looking back at Brown’s efforts in the 2016 playoffs against the Miami Dolphins. It was an explosive performance, with Brown hauling in five passes for 124 yards and two touchdowns. While Brown’s career didn’t end well, he was a special player at one time.
