Bears cut 2025 fifth-round pick before he played an NFL snap

While the Chicago Bears are happy with their 2026 draft, they could still use a couple of additional players to fill out a strong roster. However, last year’s draft included what amounts to a wasted pick. The Bears cut their 2025 fifth-round pick before he played an NFL snap.

Things didn’t work out for Zah Frazier, according to a post on X by Ari Meirov.

“The #Bears waived CB Zah Frazier, who was their 5th round pick out of UTSA last year.”

Former Bears CB Zah Frazier didn’t meet expectations

Frazuer is a cornerback with good length (6-foot-2 and 186 pounds). He was considered a potential starter in the league, according to NFL.com.

“Long-limbed corner with low career rep count but impressive production in lone starting season,” Lance Zierlein wrote in 2025. “Frazier is long, fast, and athletic but upright and gawky in transitions from off-man coverage. He stays connected to all forms of vertical routes and uses his length/leaping ability to shade deep windows for the quarterback.”

Age might have been a factor working against Frazier, who is 25 years old. He missed the entire 2025 season for a “personal” reason, according to ESPN.

“He had a situation that presented itself in a category that I would say ‘personal,' ” Bears general manager Ryan Poles said in August 2025. “As we dug into it, tried to help him out, it revealed itself as something that happened before he got here. So credit to our staff, finding the root cause of what he was going through.”

It looked like Frazier might get a chance to compete with Malik Muhammad, who the Bears selected in the fourth round of this year’s NFL Draft. And Frazier would have been eligible for this year’s rookie minicamp, which is scheduled for May 8-9.

The Bears' current starters at the cornerback positions are Jaylon Johnson and Tyrique Stevenson. Muhammad and Jaylon Jones are sitting in backup roles on the current depth chart, according to ESPN.
