What are MN Vikings Getting in New WR Jauan Jennings?

The Minnesota Vikings have been quiet for most of the 2026 offseason. Outside of firing their general manager months ago, their first round of free agency was underwhelming and the draft… well, we won’t know how that went for another year or two, at least.

But Thursday, after a handful of new GM candidates were revealed earlier in the day, the Vikings finally spiced things up a little bit. Last weekend, TCO Performance Center played host to former San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Jauan Jennings.

Unfortunately, the 28-year-old pass-catcher jetted town without a deal. However, after completing another visit or two elsewhere, Jenning and his agent Drew Rosenhaus came back to the Vikings and signed a one-year, $13 million deal.

The addition of Jennings, a 2020 seventh round pick, will give the Minnesota Vikings one of the most talented group of offensive skill players in the NFL.

Thus, there will be no excuses for new QB Kyler Murray, who has Justin Jefferson, Jordan Addison, TJ Hockenson, Aaron Jones, Jordan Mason and now Jennings at his disposal — without a doubt, it’s the deepest group he has ever worked with.

Over the course of Jauan Jennings’ five-year NFL career, he’s caught 210 passes for 2,581 yards and 22 touchdowns, averaging 12.3 yards per reception. His best season was 2024, when he went for 975 receiving yards (77 receptions) and 6 touchdowns. PFF loved everything about him that season too.

Last offseason, the Niners reportedly offered Jennings a three-year deal worth $17 million annually. He turned it down, thinking he could get more by waiting for free agency this offseason. Turns out, he was wrong. So now, he’s a member of the Minnesota Vikings for $4 million less.

Jauan Jennings is exactly what the Vikings need

Another of Jennings’ top superpowers is his ability and willingness to block. Watching his highlights, you can’t really tell what he likes to do more, catch touchdown passes or knocking unexpecting defensive backs on their rear end. Because he is really good at both.

He’s also a third down merchant — gaining the nickname in SF of “Third and Jauan” — who can lineup all over the offense. The former Tennessee Volunteer has even thrown a couple of TD’s in the league, one in 2023 and another last season. Maybe his next will be in a MN Vikings uniform…

But one thing is for sure. Whether he is blocking, fighting for extra yards… or just trash talking — Jauan Jennings plays football with a red-hot fire in his belly. There are clips all over the place of him trolling opposing fans, scuffling with opposing players and ruffling feathers all over the field.
