Anthony Gordon could leave Newcastle United in the summer transfer window and Liverpool have previously been interested.

Anthony Gordon could be available for around £65 million in the summer transfer window, reports suggest.

It is appearing likely that the winger will depart Newcastle United at the end of the season, having spent three-and-a-half years in the North East.

Since moving to St James’ Park from Everton for £45 million in January 2023, Gordon has helped the Magpies win the Carabao Cup - their first major trophy in 70 years - and twice qualify for the Champions League. He has also become an established England international.

This season, Gordon has struggled in a disappointing season for Newcastle. He has scored 17 times in all competitions, but only six have arrived in the Premier League.

Eddie Howe’s side are expected to freshen their squad in the summer and will need sales to do so. Gordon is one who is expected to depart, with Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich keen. Liverpool were close to signing Gordon - a boyhood Reds fans - in 2024 and are set to strengthen their attack this summer, especially with Mohamed Salah departing at the end of his contract.

According to Sky Sports Germany, Bayern have held talks with the Magpies, who want a fee of around £78 million. But it is likely Gordon will be sold for less. Reporter Florian Plettenberg posted on X: “There have already been club-to-club talks between FC Bayern and Newcastle regarding Anthony Gordon.

“Newcastle’s initial demands were up to €90m (£78m) . Barcelona, Arsenal and Liverpool also informed. Realistically, the fee is expected to be around €75-85m (£65-£73m) including bonuses. Bayern will not pay that. That is why talks with other candidates are also ongoing.”

Gordon’s move to Liverpool two years ago almost came around when Newcastle required sales to meet Premier League profit and sustainability rules. However, the Magpies instead parted ways with Elliott Anderson and Yankuba Minteh.

Speaking on the transfer saga, Gordon said: “It was difficult for me because one, I had the Euros, which was horrendous for me mentally. I was there, I wasn’t playing. Then I had the transfer stuff. With PSR, I thought I was going to leave at some point in the window. It didn’t happen. I had to get my head around that to begin with, and then to get my head around it again was hard. I’m a human being. It’s really difficult.”
