Manchester City not keen to sell player to ‘direct rival’ – Won’t compromise on price

Manchester City‘s Nathan Aké hasn’t featured regularly for the Premier League side this season.

The Netherlands international has played 1,445 minutes from 29 matches, including just four league starts.

His restricted role at Manchester City encouraged him to leave the Etihad in the winter market.

In December, Sport Witness covered claims from Spain that the centre-back has offers from unnamed Premier League sides and Barcelona were also in the mix for January.

A move never took shape but the La Liga winners continue to have him on their agenda.

Barcelona not discarding Manchester City man

That’s according to Friday’s edition of Mundo Deportivo, and their title states ‘Barca haven’t ruled out centre-back Nathan Aké’.

The Spanish giants are looking to improve the centre-back and the striker position in the next window and have already identified targets for both positions.

Aké is on their list of the defensive targets as his name is still on the table at the Camp Nou.

The 31-year-old is keen on leaving Manchester City after this season, which should please his suitors.

Sources have told the newspaper that Barcelona identified the defender as the ‘low-cost option’.

His profile suits what the Spanish giants are looking for in a centre-back.

The Catalan club’s problem is that Manchester City aren’t willing to compromise when it comes to a ‘direct rival’ and won’t offer a discount. The Etihad club seem to see Barcelona as a competitor for the Champions League.

Nathan Aké’s high salary and Pep Guardiola’s side wanting to create a bidding war to earn as much as possible is also a concern for Barcelona.

As well as Hansi Flick’s side, the Dutchman is attracting interest from unnamed Premier League clubs, AS Roma and Juventus. Earlier this month, Sport Witness relayed news of the Serie A duo’s concrete interest.
