Alexis Mac Allister’s agent explains why they have declined transfer talks “so far”

Alexis Mac Allister‘s father and agent, Carlos, has explained why they are yet to hold talks over a possible move from Liverpool, with a “level of respect” for fans.

Mac Allister will enter the final two years of his contract this summer and there is growing speculation over the midfielder leaving Liverpool.

Real Madrid are among the sides credited with an interest, although it remains to be seen whether that will develop into a formal bid.

As it stands, Mac Allister is solely focused on the current campaign, with his agent – father Carlos Mac Allister – telling WinWin that they were not yet holding talks out of “respect” for the club’s supporters.

“Alexis has a valid contract until June 2028 and so far we are not speaking publicly with any other club,” Mac Allister Sr. explained.

“We believe that the club’s fans deserve this level of respect from the player.

“And so far the club has not negotiated with us to renew the contract.”

The suggestion is that no talks will take place during the season as the fans “deserve” Mac Allister’s commitment with no distractions from elsewhere.

It is clearly not the norm among modern footballers, with dialogue often ongoing between their representatives and other clubs while a campaign is still underway.

When does every Liverpool midfielder’s contract expire?

Liverpool Midfielders: Contract Expiry Dates

Player Contract Expires Age at Expiry

Curtis Jones June 30, 2027 26

Wataru Endo June 30, 2027 34

Stefan Bajcetic June 30, 2027 22

Alexis Mac Allister June 30, 2028 29

Dominik Szoboszlai June 30, 2028 27

Trey Nyoni June 30, 2030 23

Ryan Gravenberch June 30, 2032 30

That speaks to the integrity of Liverpool’s No. 10 and his family, but with the club not opening talks over a new contract their stance could well change when the season is up.

Ryan Gravenberch has already signed a new long-term deal while Dominik Szoboszlai is expected to put pen to paper in the near future, but Mac Allister, who will be 29 when his current contract runs out, has not received the same treatment.

Claims that he could leave the club have not been downplayed by the media and in fact the possibility has been encouraged.

Liverpool could view Mac Allister as one of their only sellable assets heading into a summer in which Arne Slot has already admitted they would, at least to a certain extent, need to sell to buy.

There is interest in a number of midfielders including Crystal Palace‘s Adam Wharton, 22, Lens’ Mamadou Sangare, 23, and Monaco’s Lamine Camara, 22.

With Curtis Jones also expected to depart as Inter Milan loom and Wataru Endo likely to consider an exit, a revamp of Slot’s options in the middle of the park seems imminent.

How Mac Allister himself views the situation is unclear, but with no new contract on offer his hand may be forced.
