How Liam Delap now feels about leaving Chelsea after just one season at the club

Liam Delap has failed to impress in his first season as a Chelsea player, however is determined to turn things around rather than leave the club this summer.

Signed in the same window as Joao Pedro, it has been night and day between the two strikers at Stamford Bridge in the 2025/26 campaign.

Delap has just one Premier League goal to his name this season, leaving many to believe he has made too big a step up in his career after moving from Ipswich Town.

Liam Delap wants to stay at Chelsea

Delap has already turned down a move to Strasbourg where he would likely have replaced Emanuel Emegha, who is Chelsea bound at the end of the season.

It is not just a Ligue 1 move that doesn’t appeal to Delap. According to the Mail Online, Delap is not keen on leaving Stamford Bridge this summer.

This seemingly puts an end to Newcastle United’s interest in the Englishman, after they were one of the sides interested in signing him when Chelsea beat them to a deal.

Newcastle have also been linked with Nicolas Jackson, another striker who will be at Stamford Bridge who the club will be open to parting ways with.

A number of other clubs have been keen on the striker, including former club Ipswich as they return to the Premier League for next season.

Why Liam Delap has struggled at Chelsea

The striker has seen most of his starts come in cup competitions for the Blues, however didn’t find the net in the club’s run to the FA Cup final.

Delap has suffered from not starting regularly for Chelsea. He has been unable to displace Pedro from the side this season.

He has been accused of being too weak in possession when trying to hold up the ball, one of the areas he was expected to thrive in.

Chelsea fans need to see more from Delap next season if he is to avoid being forced out by the club, with them not known for giving too much time for new signings to adjust.
