Thiago Alcantara has delivered a glowing verdict of former Liverpool star Luis Diaz’s time at Bayern Munich. The winger has been sensational for the German giants since completing his move from Anfield last summer.
The 29-year-old spent three-and-a-half seasons with the Reds, winning the Premier League, FA Cup and two League Cups during his time in English football. Diaz was pivotal to Arne Slot’s title-winning side in 2025 but the Reds have been forced to watch on from afar as he has taken his game to new heights in Munich.
While Liverpool are left to wonder whether they were right to sell Diaz, former midfielder Thiago has spoken about the forward’s prolific form. The 35-year-old played for both clubs and commended Bayern’s decision to sign his ex-teammate.

“They're having a spectacular season. I think they made the right call signing Luis,” Thaigo told Sky Sport Deutschland.

“I know him from Liverpool. He's a fantastic player and person. And Vinnie [Kompany] is doing a great job as coach.
“The team is fantastic, with a very good mix of experienced and young players. It's a pleasure to watch them play.”
Diaz has scored 26 and provided 21 assists in 48 games for Bayern so far this term. This is a marked improvement from his 41 goals and 23 assists in 148 appearances for Liverpool, suggesting he could be entering his prime years. Reds icon Steven Gerrard recently argued that the Reds miss Diaz on the left flank.
The comments from Thiago, who is currently Barcelona’s assistant manager, highlight the positive impression that the Colombia international made during their time together. The pair were teammates from January 2022 until the summer of 2024, when Thiago left the Reds and subsequently retired.

In February, when reflecting on the decision to sell Diaz, Liverpool boss Slot said: "Luis Diaz is another example of how this club is run. If this club gets an offer like that for a 28-year-old, then this club, because it is built on sustainability, chooses to sell a player, and we are an exception in the Premier League, especially at the top of the Premier League, for that.
"That is why it is also so nice that we can achieve the things we have achieved in the last few years with that model. He is doing very well at Bayern, and that is not a surprise to me."
Liverpool are likely to be in the market for wingers this summer. Mohamed Salah is set to leave the club at the end of the season, while Slot may also wish to bolster his options on the left flank.
Meanwhile, Bayern have already won the Bundesliga this season, clinching the league title with games to spare. Vincent Kompany’s side are also scheduled to face Stuttgart in the DFB-Pokal final but missed out on a place in the Champions League final after losing their semi-final tie against Paris Saint-Germain.
